The pictures on the side show a little about the tragedy that hit São Lourenço do Sul. Even so they can not show the real dimension of what represented this flood in our community. In this hard time the state community showed us, again, solidarity. It had been received donations, from all over the state and outside the state, tons and tons of maintenances including; food, hygiene products, thousands of water gallons, cloths, etc. A lot of donations came from Rotary Clubs, Rotarians, or people related to Rotary in some level. We all thank you because it was very important to the city hall and civil defense. With that they could help immediately the needed families. The rain stopped, the water came down, but we can´t say the worst has passed. The reality it is that the worst still to come. The hopelessness of loosing all that you have in life has caused other losses, by suicide and even from heart attacks. Those losses added to the others flood losses.
It´s impossible to describe the melancholy that dominates the people from São Lourenço do Sul. They still fight to return back to normal life. They say for themselves: “we need to move on”. It´s like we see the world through an aquarium glass. And our club is worry about its future. The people need to redo their lives. Will they make it? And those elderly, that live only from their pension, money that could just make to pay their drugs, food, etc. How will they remake their houses? How they will buy beds, mattress, and furniture?
Even those good related donations have a bad side. How the little food market that were hit by the flood will return their activities. Their clients are those that lost everything so they can´t buy. Are they predestinated to ruin? How it will impact our town´s economy? How it will be the next vacation time? Do the tourists will be back?
It´s by this terror that the Rotary Club São Lourenço do Sul decided to create a fund to attend those necessities. Our attitudes were motivated by money donations that we received from some Rotary Clubs. But facing many donation needs, the amount receives it is insignificant. Mean time we believe that the help of all rotary people and other people can make a difference. We can reconstruct our town. The fund will be administrated, with the known Rotarian honesty and care, by our club. It will be used to help who really need. The donations can be made to our club account and any quantity it´s welcome.We know that everyone will make it´s part and we thank you all.
